Projects

Kolkata City Mission supports many diferent programs in the city including support in slums, access to health care via medical camps, and providing education.

Community Classrooms

$0.00

Raised
Kolkata City Mission has initiated a new effort to engage rural children who often lack motivation to attend school regularly, despite the availability of free public education. To address this issue, we have established Community Classrooms in several villages aimed at making education more enjoyable and accessible. In these classrooms, we provide support for students struggling with challenging subjects, along with various activities designed to make learning fun. Additionally, Community Classrooms encourage parents to motivate their children to attend public school consistently. Currently, over 130 children are benefiting from these community classrooms.

Football Coaching

$0.00

Raised
A transformation is happening among the youth involved with the soccer (football) team. Young boys are leaving their old habits like drinking country-made liquor and other traditional bad habits (chewing paan, bidi smoking, gambling). While they are involved in football, they have to follow a high level of discipline to become perfect football players. It’s our joy to see this transformation taking place among these young boys. One day they will be perfect sportsman!

Manthano Modern School

$4,070.00

Raised
Manthano Modern School is a wholistic education initiation for the rural children. The school was founded and established so that the rural people can also get a quality English medium education just like the children in the developed cities of the country. The village, in which we've established the new school building, and the neighboring villages are very much aloof from the privileges of the towns located in the same district. Hence, we saw a need to build a bridge between the cities and remote villages. The only concrete way to build a bridge is to educate the village children.

Medical Camps

$550.00

Raised
For residents of the slum medical care is almost non-existent.  Every few months KCM organizes medical camps in the slums to help provide for the well-being of the residents.  Residents meet with Doctors and Nurses for basic care and learn how to take better care of their families.  Educational programs are put on to inform residents about foods, nutrition, health hazards, and cleanliness.

School Registration

$500.00

Raised
School Registration requires significant infrastructure, which involves certain criteria like a finished building, playground, adequate washrooms, a library, a computer lab, secure compound walls, and health and safety features like fire protection and CCTV surveillance. Achieving registration will be a pivotal milestone for us, enabling steady growth in student enrollment and opportunities for the children at Manthano.

Teacher Accommodations

$14,370.00 Raised 24%
Manthano Modern School is situated in a rural area approximately 55 kilometres from Kharagpur, which is where most of the teachers commute from due to a lack of qualified instructors for English Medium education in the region. This lengthy travel often poses challenges for teachers in terms of punctuality and returning home. Providing accommodation for teachers on the school premises would alleviate their commuting difficulties and enable them to spend more quality time with students when needed.

Teacher Support

$4,200.00

Raised
The need for quality education in rural India is urgent. If we, as a charitable organization, do not step up, who will? Our school faces ongoing challenges in attracting quality teachers, as most of our educators travel over 60 kilometers from urban areas to reach us. They endure significant hardships, and their compensation does not reflect their qualifications or the obstacles they overcome daily.

Women’s Economic Empowerment

$5,564.00

Raised
Strong women are the backbone of any thriving community.  KCM believes that by providing women business skills they can better provide for their family and community.  About 60 women are participating in five different Self Help Groups (SHG). Women come together for training and education in financial planning, small-scale business enterprise, and collectively save in a micro-investment fund used for business start-ups. Malati Banarjee  is a member  of a SHG group called as Aallo (light). She arranged for her daughter to married with a young man.  Malati’s brother promised Rupees 10000 towards her wedding expense.  Within a week of the marriage Malati’s brother died of a heart attack. She had nowhere to turn to for help. Soon her SHG group came to her assistance  by withdrawing ten thousand rupees from their group saving and help Malati to get her daughter married on time.
